West Palm Beach doesn't get nearly the credit it deserves. While Miami grabs the international headlines and the Keys attract the road-trippers, WPB quietly delivers something most Florida destinations can't: real culture, walkable neighborhoods, world-class dining, and a waterfront that feels designed for lingering rather than rushing. Here's how to make the most of a weekend here.

Friday Night: Arrive and Explore Clematis Street

Land on a Friday evening and head straight to Clematis Street. This is the heart of downtown WPB and one of South Florida's most genuinely fun evening destinations. The mix of restaurants, bars, and live music venues makes it easy to spend three hours here without noticing. Grandview Public Market at Grandview Heights is worth a visit if you want to graze rather than commit to a sit-down meal — local vendors, craft beer, and a courtyard that fills up on warm evenings.

For dinner, Avocado Grill on Clematis is a local institution. The menu is creative and the room feels like a real neighborhood restaurant rather than a tourist trap — because it is.

Saturday Morning: The Waterfront and Northwood Village

Saturday mornings in WPB are made for the waterfront. The West Palm Beach Waterfront stretches along the Intracoastal with walking paths, bike rentals, and water taxi access over to Palm Beach island. Grab coffee at a local spot and walk south toward the Palm Beach Island bridge for views that genuinely stop people in their tracks.

After a walk, head north to Northwood Village — a neighborhood that's worth knowing. It's an arts district with independent galleries, vintage shops, and a relaxed energy that feels entirely different from downtown. The Saturday morning farmers market near downtown is also well worth it if you're a food-lover.

Saturday Afternoon: The Norton Museum and Rosemary Square

The Norton Museum of Art is one of the finest art museums in the southeastern United States and it's genuinely surprising to visitors who don't know it. The permanent collection spans American, European, and Chinese art, and the traveling exhibitions are consistently excellent. Plan for two to three hours.

From there, Rosemary Square (the pedestrian-friendly outdoor shopping and dining district formerly known as CityPlace) is a short drive or rideshare and makes for a pleasant late afternoon of shopping and people-watching. El Camino Modern Mexican here is one of the best spots in the city for a late lunch margarita.

Saturday Evening: Worth Avenue or a Waterfront Dinner

For dinner, Buccan on Palm Beach island is a short drive across the bridge and widely considered one of the best restaurants in all of South Florida. The small plates are exceptional. Alternatively, HMF inside The Breakers offers one of the most dramatic dining rooms you'll ever sit in — make a reservation well in advance.

Sunday: The Green Market and a Slow Morning

Sunday mornings belong to the West Palm Beach Green Market at Meyer Amphitheater, running October through April. It's one of Florida's best farmers markets, with local produce, fresh juice, prepared foods, and live music that makes it feel like an event rather than an errand. Even off-season, the waterfront area on Sunday morning is peaceful in a way that makes you want to extend your stay.

Where to Stay in West Palm Beach

The best way to experience West Palm Beach is staying in the city itself — not a resort on Palm Beach island where you're isolated from the actual neighborhood energy. A well-located vacation rental near downtown or in Northwood Village puts everything on this list within walking distance or a short drive.
